Playrooms Sprint, Crouch and Stamina: Why Controls May Not Work

Separate locked movement abilities from keybinding problems and check the stamina-display change in the Playrooms demo.

Why do sprint and crouch seem not to work?

Check whether the ability has been unlocked first. A player who reported inactive sprint and crouch keys later corrected the report after reaching the unlock. The official October 13 notes independently confirm that granting sprint and crouch permissions displays the corresponding key, supporting that distinction between availability and binding.

The player’s initial report named default keys, but those bindings are not a substitute for the current Controls screen. Rebinding an action will not grant a movement permission you have not obtained.

Original question and correction.

What should you check before changing your bindings?

Look for the unlock notification and its assigned key, then compare that information with the current Controls screen. The October 13 update made these notices last longer and improved key icons. This helps separate a missed prompt from an ability that is actually failing after an unlock.

A practical sequence is:

  1. Confirm the movement permission has been granted.
  2. Read the action’s current binding in Controls.
  3. Try that binding in ordinary open space.
  4. If it still fails, note the unlock state and current binding in a bug report.

The last step is a reporting suggestion, not a verified fix. This page does not establish a particular pit, upgrade price or collection threshold required for the unlock.

Is there a stamina bar in the demo?

The October 20 developer announcement says stamina is now displayed. Earlier feedback asking for a bar is evidence of an older build’s limitation, not a reason to state that the current demo has no display. Update the demo before comparing your interface with launch-week videos.

The developers had previously acknowledged the missing display in the Stamina Bar discussion. The later patch announcement is the stronger evidence that it was added.

No exact capacity, regeneration rate, jump cost or coffee interaction has been verified here. Use the visible display rather than a guessed cooldown.

Where should you go for a different control problem?

Use the deposit-controls guide when you can collect balls but cannot empty them into a pool. That interaction shares the pickup button. For drifting view, controller navigation or Y-axis inversion, use mouse, controller and Steam Deck troubleshooting.

Those are separate from progression-locked movement. If a character is physically trapped in scenery, check known collision issues rather than repeatedly changing controls.
